Why Viz

    • Catholic

Empowering Our Students to

“Be Who You Are and Be that Well.”

These inspiring words from St. Francis de Sales are as fitting today as they were in 1833 when Visitation Academy was founded in St. Louis, but they are much more than words encouraging students to embrace their individuality and live their best lives. They are the foundation for the knowledge, skills, and virtues we teach at Viz as we prepare our boys, girls, and young women for the rest of their lives.

Each and every student is blessed with their own gifts, and it is our mission to help channel these gifts into opportunities for our graduates to be successful and to positively impact the world. When you step into Viz, you will see just that. Students and teachers sharing with one another and learning from each other. Young people growing as leaders and flourishing as they learn to “Live Jesus.” You will see a community and a spirit that is uniquely and undeniably Viz.

  • Scholarship

As the area’s only all-girl program for Grades 1-12, we know the value of single-sex education. Educating girls and young women in a separate, academically ambitious setting empowers them to participate wholly in the academic experience, pursue wider fields of study, reach higher potential, and build greater confidence. Viz students have a deep passion for learning and are among the region’s highest-achieving students.
  • Learning

The curriculum at each grade level challenges students to push themselves intellectually and instills the skills necessary to thrive in an ever-changing world. Our faculty is dedicated to the individual success of each and every student. Small class sizes ensures that our caring faculty is accessible and attuned to each students’ unique needs. Technology is seamlessly integrated into our classrooms to support instruction.
  • Leadership

There is no mistaking the deep knowledge, gentle strength, and quiet confidence of a Viz graduate. Our alumnae are an undeniable testament to the value of a Visitation education and the lifelong impact of the Viz experience. There are countless stories about how our alumnae have taken the knowledge, skills, and virtues gained during their years at Viz out into the world to achieve success in a diverse array of careers.
  • Spirituality

Young women choose Viz for our academic excellence, but they also choose Viz for another equally important reason - they want an environment that allows them to continue their religious formation and character development. Fostering a strong spiritual life is an important part of Viz from the Montessori through the Upper School. A Viz education sets the course for each student’s life-long faith development.
  • Curiosity

A love of learning is a hallmark of a Viz student. Core courses are supplemented with a wide array of interesting and challenging electives. Experiential learning opportunities, entrepreneurial studies, STEM curriculum, and college coursework provide additional opportunities for students to expand their horizons in unimaginable ways. Viz students continue their education at prestigious colleges and universities across the country.
  • Diversity

St. Francis de Sales said, “The Church is a garden patterned with unlimited flowers; it is necessary that they should be of various sizes, various colors, various odors, and to sum it up, different perfections…all of them provide a beauty most pleasing and perfect.” We embrace our role in sustaining the beauty in diversity, celebrating the unique gifts of each of our students, regardless of culture, ethnicity, race, or socioeconomic status.
Visitation Academy is an independent, private Catholic school offering a coeducational Montessori preschool and Kindergarten program, the area's only all-girl elementary program for Grades 1-5, and an all-girl middle school and all-girl high school.
